To register a vehicle under your business name in Ontario, you will first need to request a RIN by submitting a RIN request letter.
What is a RIN?
A Registrant Identification Number RIN is a unique 9-digit number used by businesses or organizations in Ontario to register vehicles, since companies do not possess a driverʼs license, which is typically required for vehicle registration. The RIN serves as the business equivalent of an individualʼs driverʼs license number, allowing companies to register and manage vehicles for business use.
How to obtain a RIN
To obtain a RIN, a business must visit a Service Ontario location, provide valid corporate identification, and complete the necessary forms including a RIN request Letter that need to be notarized by a Notary Public. Once the RIN is issued, it can be used for all future vehicle registration and related transactions under the companyʼs name.
